PREPARE A "GRAB AND GO" BOX TO INCLUDE YOUR PET’S NEEDS:
GRAB AND GO BOX FOR YOUR CRITTERS:
FOR DOGS
1.) Rabies and other vaccines records in case you need to house you pet at a shelter.
2.) A muzzle to protect your dog from being unpredictable, if he/she has to be handled by strangers, or as a requirement to get into a shelter.
3.) A collar with identification, a harness, and a leash for various handling situations.
4.) A flea comb and tick grabber, if you have to walk through wild places to escape.
5.) Eye-wash product safe for pets.
6.) Normal grooming brushes and combs.
7.) Your dog’s medications, including heartworm prevention medication.
8.) Towels, for comfort and keeping dry. A large blanket for lifting your dog, if needed.
9.) Enough food until you can replenish your supplies.
10.) Enough clean water until you can be where water is clean and available.
11.) Foot protection if your dog needs walks in dangerous areas (heat/glass) to escape.
12.) Dog crate(s) to put your dog(s) in for their own protection and security.
13.) Hand sanitizer & disposable gloves, if you need to exam your dog(s) for injuries.
14.) A Large stick of white chalk to write on your home or pathway or street, any information about you or your home for firemen, Animal Services, or other emergency workers.
15.) DON’T FORGET a sign mounted on your front door indicating that you and your pets have evacuated. OR…If you truly must leave any pets (but PLEASE don't), MAKE A SIGN describing ANY animals you have left in the house: How many cats, dogs, birds or other, their physical descriptions, breed, color, age, size. TAPE THIS TO YOUR FRONT DOOR, so that Animal Services or others can try to save your pets. But, PLEASE do not depend on this possibility. Emergency Crew will be risking their lives to fight fires, save people caught in the disaster, save homes and our town. It will not be possible for them to come to your house to save your pets.
Idyllwild ARF will be involved in saving and evacuating the animals staying at ARF House. It is important that you have a plan to evacuate your own pets, and that you have agreements with other people in Idyllwild to evacuate your pets if you are away.
FOR CATS
