ARF Drone Team
Idyllwild Animal Rescue Friends ARF receives several calls each month regarding lost/missing dogs. ARF recognizes the difficulty in finding a lost dog amongst the many trees, small unidentifiable roads, and vast landscapes. After a rec ent call about a missing puppy, ARF leadership knew it was time to launch a new program, designed to help find lost dogs in our mountain communities. An “eye in the sky” is beneficial in finding and tracking a wandering, scared canine, hence ARF’s new program to find these missing pups, the Doggy Drone Team.
Volunteers for this mission first passed an FCC class, then attended local classes, learning how to operate a small drone and instructed in using this technology to find and follow a missing pet. After instruction in the care and operation of the drone, Doggy Drone team members are currentlyparticipating in “lost dog” simulations and drills. ARF provides the drone, safety vests, handheld radios (for easy communication), and proper identification. Those who call for assistance from the Doggy Drone will be asked to assemble people to be part of the search team.
All rules and laws applying to use of the drone are followed, and soon the program will be staffed with fully qualified drone operators and assistants. Once all volunteers are qualified, the public will be notified of how/when to ask for help from the Doggy Drone Team
